After learning of the plight of Siyabonga Zondi who, confined to a wonky old wheelchair, trundles along the farm roads to Dargle School every day, Andy Visser from N3Toll Concession (N3TC) arranged a brand new one, better able to cope with the country conditions. It was delivered last amidst singing, dancing and celebration. Delighted with his new wheels, Siyabonga commented "my old car was in a bad condition, this one is great."
Siyabonga's friends who have been faithfully pushing him to school for many years, Sabelo Duma, Makhale Zondi and Xolani Mnikathi were rewarded for their kindness with bright, reflective backpacks to make carrying their school books a bit easier.
N3TC is committed to uplifting the lives of the communities alongside the N3 and is the principal funder of the Midlands Meander Education Project (MMAEP) which supports Dargle School in their efforts to earn WWF/WESSA Eco-School status. Andy Visser said "We are so pleased to be able to make a difference in Siyabonga's life and impressed to learn that this happy, hardworking school was the first in the MMAEP to submit their completed Eco-School portfolio for judging in 2010."
